Continuing with my Starry Night series, I wanted to create a smaller, square version of Van Gogh’s classic work. To do so, I needed to strategically crop the original, rectangular format, keeping just enough of the Cyprus trees and the moon, while highlighting the Stars, Steeple, and Swirling Sky. Very little simplification was needed, and I was able to keep much of the original detail (despite the small scale), as well as add buttons to the sides for added dynamics. The success of this smaller version proves that big things come in small packages… or at least in small paintings.
