In reimagining Grant Wood’s 1930 work, using Asymmetrical Symmetry, I wanted to abstract and stylize, but not stray too far from the original. To give the piece an Americana feel, I gave the layout a geometric patchwork quilt design. At first, I was going to use my vertical line stripe pattern on the upper portion of the façade of the house but felt the gothic window might get lost in the business. From organic to geometric, Wood’s American Gothic, became my American Gothic through Asymmetrical Symmetry.
