Acrylic on Canvas
This artwork originated as one component of a quartet of paintings. I developed a composition on canvas utilizing graphite and basic drafting tools. I replicated the layout with tracing paper and transferred it to three additional canvases of identical size. The first piece was brought to completion using brushed-on acrylic paint and acrylic paint pens. The second canvas was fully painted, omitting the detailed work of the acrylic paint pens and drafting tools. The third piece involved blocking in basic colors with colored pencils, with no further development. The fourth and final canvas was advanced to the blackline stage, rendered with a black acrylic paint pen and basic drafting tools. The four canvases were intended for use as visual aids in an artist's talk, where I would discuss my creative process. Subsequently, I modified the layouts of the second, third, and fourth canvases to introduce variation in design within the four-part series. The earthy color palette and curving lines inspired the woodsy title used throughout the set.
