With this monochromatic piece of Orange + Black & White, I cropped the image, with the figures (and crow) at the same size as the original, from a previous painting for a more intimate look. Originally, the female figure was to be painted with white skin, but the dark reddish gesso under-painting I used, revealed a black woman, thus I rendered her skin tone in a warmer, darker hue. The silvery moon was much larger as well. I felt it was overwhelming the central figures, so I scaled it back a bit. When titling the piece, I thought about the setting in which the two figures were dancing. I added the crow for a somewhat dark and foreboding feel (and a little humor).
