It was Apple Blossom Time in the Valley
At the Festival I Met This Girl
Our Time was Brief Like an Autumn Leaf
Beneath the Sky of Diamond and Pearl
She Lived in a Different County
Our Homes Seven Miles Apart
The Distance to Travel I’d Have to Unravel
But That Didn’t Worry My Heart
Crossing the River Would Have to be Done
A Difficult Task Without a Machine
More Precisely Said, ‘twas the Bridge Instead
That Worried My Heart to Extreme
For Once Through the Planks, I Fell
While Crossing an Old Wooden Bridge
High in the Air and Done on a Dare
To Make it From Ridge to Ridge
If I Were to Walk those Seven Miles
I Could See the Face of That Girl
But Crossing that River Made My Heart Shiver
Beneath the Sky of Diamond and Pearl
Yet I Set Off on My Journey to Love
Guided by Foolish Romance
Would I Cross the Bridge to Reach the Ridge
Or Would Fear Cripple My Dance
As I Stood Before the Crossroads of Love
I Saw Her House at the Top of the Ridge
She Was Waiting for Me, That I Could See
While I Thought of Crisscrossing the Bridge
I Should Never Have Walked Those Seven Miles
And Crossed the Intersecting Grid
The Journey was Long and Could Have Gone Wrong
And yet… I am So Glad I Did
