After mapping out a basic grid and border for this piece; graphite on canvas, I continued with pencil creating a large circle in the center with trumpet-like arms jutting out in opposite directions to establish movement. Initially I had at least twice as many detail (plaid-like) lines crisscrossing the painting like an interstate highway system. After eliminating some of the excessive line work and simplifying certain areas the painting was complete. In the end, after viewing the work from every angle I settled on its original orientation… And the idol-like images, pyramid shapes, and architectural lines led me to its divine title.
