There are over 4,000 species of flowering plants in the world, wow, that’s a lot. But in my world, there are only two. Sunflowers and Tulips are the greatest flowers in the world, for me anyway, geometrically speaking.

With all the different types of flowers, with their varying shapes, sizes, and colors, I find these two to be the most pleasing when broken down to their basic geometric forms. Sunflowers have such great personalities, from cheery to gloomy, or solemn to playful. With their basic circle, square, and triangular design. Tulips, on the other hand, are majestic and sensual. They can be colored any way imaginable, from red, to yellow, to pink, and on and on.

Over the years, women have gifted me with flowers, usually sunflowers with their gritty smiles, or brightly colored tulips fresh from an artist’s palette. The girls know they are my favorites. And I may blush each time these greenhouse goodies are delivered, but I feel pretty, oh so pretty…. Wait! Isn’t that from West Side Story?

Throughout my time as an artist, I have created works featuring these inspiring beauties. From sculptures to colored pencil drawings, to functional art, to these geometric, acrylic paintings, sunflowers and tulips have been a steadfast subject for me… and for the women who have shown me their affection.
