 This dual monochromatic work was created with palettes of Orange + Black and White, and Yellow + Black and White. Besides the whimsical subject matter and title, the focus of this piece is the geometric, abstract patterning creating depth and movement in the boy’s button-down shirt. The intricate design was created with brushed acrylic paint and acrylic paint pens (rendered with a straight edge). I achieved the coarse blending of tonal shades of grey on the skin and hat by implementing a layering and scrub technique I developed using a short-bristled paintbrush.
