In this Monochromatic piece of Orange + Black and White, with a spot color of Ocean Blue, everything came together quite nicely, all except the raccoon’s face. It started out too cartoonish. A stylized version was my aim. After reducing the size of the eyes and adding additional detail, a more desired look was achieved. The raccoon (as a spirit animal) represents curiosity, disguise, and exploration. The sextant (held by the raccoon) is a tool of exploration, determining the angle between the horizon and a celestial body, such as the moon, sun, or star. I used this device to give detail to exploration. A fictional map was created as a backdrop to further the concept of discovery. A map, used for, or created during exploration as a drawing or diagram representing a place. My ever-present crow is a symbol of cleverness, a much-needed skill when one is exploring. These items give the boy tools for a successful expedition of reality or dreams.
