In this Monochromatic painting of Yellow + Black and White, I started with a photograph of a pig in profile for reference, and then created a storybook scene around it. Placing a dancing boy on the pig’s back gave the work a playful scenario to build upon, which I echoed with a crow on a whitewashed fence. I added sunflowers and wheat stalks to complete the farm-like scene. To make the boy’s shirt sweater-like, I used a weave pattern to simulate a knitted look. I also added silhouetted wheat stalks behind the detailed ones to give depth to the painting and fill out the field of grain backdrop. Each of these details help in telling this Scarecrow story.
