A Winter’s Getaway
In Quaint Hood River Town
With My Wife, Robin
We Enjoy the Sights and Sounds
We Take a Brisk Stroll
For Dinner We Do Search
Then Skimming Through the Menu
Robin Thinks of Perch
A Burger and Fries
Would Suit My Palette, Bland
Robin Orders Something Else
To Place at Her Command
The Waiter Brings Our Food
Sits it Before Us Two
I Look Across at Robin’s Plate
And Know Not What to Do
On Her Plate There Lies
Glowing, Purplish, Brownish, Gold
An Alien Form of Life
Quite Awesome to Behold
Is That Calamari
I Ask to Her in Doubt
It’s Just Its Friendly Cousin
Like Salmon is to Trout
I Say it Looks Disgusting
She Says it’s Yummy, Dear
It’s Just an Arm of Octopi
There’s Nothing Here to Fear
With its Savory Squalene
I Try to Hold My Breath
In Fear it Might Rise from Her Plate
And Strangle Me to Death!
