I often have a title in mind as a starting point when beginning a new piece. In this instance, I did not have a title. Throughout the repainting process of this reworked composition, I still lacked an appropriate title to replace the outdated one that no longer aligned with the spirit of the work. As I considered the jewel-like patterning I created using acrylic paint pens and a freehand technique, I sought to devise an alliteration incorporating the word "Jewels." I began research on natural terms that started with the letter "J." I wanted a word that reflected the earthy essence of my color palette. Upon discovering the word "Jasper," I noted that it referred to a reddish gemstone found in the Western United States. This description fit the brownish-red hues dominating my painting, which soon featured cascading Jasper and Jewels.
