In the reimagining of van Gogh’s “The Starry Night,” I primarily used a monochromatic palette of Blue + black and white with multiple spot colors of various hues. During the finishing stage I was unhappy with the look of the swirling sky. It seemed flat and uninspired. I pondered it for a couple of days to no avail. Then one morning my wife suggested a circle pattern to reflect the shape of the stars in the sky. This simple suggestion not only livened up the swirling sky but brought the entire painting to life. This dramatic change eased my mind like a peaceful Starry Night.
