In the reimagining of van Gogh’s “The Starry Night,” I primarily used a monochromatic palette of Blue + Black and White with multiple spot colors of various hues. The focus of this interpretation of Van Gogh’s work was to treat the cypress trees and other foliage differently than my first “Starry” painting. Instead of a single, flat color, I used multiple hues in a loose mix. This gave the image more depth and texture. One of the challenges with this painting was the awkward tangent created by the relationship between the upper star-glow and the black and white border as they overlap. To alleviate the tension, I gave the upper edge of the outer ring of the glow a white outline to separate the two black lines of circle and border. These enhancements made for a unique starry night.
