I started this piece with the concept of viewing an alpine mountain scene through the veil of a large, close-up mesh. Upon completing the composition to the blackline stage with several sections blocked in with brushed-on acrylic paint, I set the canvas aside to focus on other more inspiring projects. After several months of seeing the canvas in a corner of the studio, I retrieved it one day with the determination to complete it. I finalized the basic painting and began work on the intricate detail. While still uninspired by the painting's progression, I got an idea. While looking at a painting in the studio (at its blackline stage) I was prompted to incorporate trees and adopt its title. As a result, Trees and Trails #1 and #2 emerged.
